- Implants Cover Tissue – One of the issues with implants is that they cover some of the breast tissue where tumors can grow. To get enough pictures of the tissue, more pictures may be required during your mammogram.
- Moving the Implant – To get these extra pictures and get a full view of the breast tissue, the implant may need to be gently moved.
- Special Type of Mammogram – Another thing to know is that if you have implants you may require a special type of x-ray mammogram.
- Compression – Finally, all mammograms require some compression of the breast. With breast implants, the same amount of pressure is required. However, there is a very slight risk that the pressure can cause the implant to leak or rupture. However, this risk is well worth it to reduce the risk of cancer.
