You deserve to feel and look good after all the weight you’ve lost. Here at MP Plastic Surgery, our doctors have the compassion, skill & experience to work with you to develop a unique body contouring plan, helping you feel confident and comfortable in your healthier new body.

Achieving significant weight loss is often a critical step in improving health, longevity, and quality of life. Whether through diet, exercise, or bariatric surgery (such as gastric bypass surgery), losing that weight is a huge accomplishment. Unfortunately, significant weight loss is often accompanied by the burden of excess skin.

Body Contouring basics

If you’ve lost a lot of weight, you’ve got a lot to be proud of, and body contouring surgery can help you enjoy your fitter physique. Through a personally tailored surgery plan, our surgeons can help you address the excess, sagging skin wherever it bothers you most, achieving a natural look that adds to your confidence and sense of accomplishment. Plus, your clothes will fit and look better.

Arm Contouring

Loose, sagging skin on the upper arms is common after massive weight loss. While diet & exercise can reduce fat and tone the muscle, neither can tighten loose, excess skin. Arm lift surgery eliminates the excess skin and restores a smooth, shapely contour to the upper arms, helping you feel more comfortable and confident wearing clothing that shows your upper arms.

Thigh Lifting

If you have lost a lot of weight in your thighs, you may have an excess of skin and connective tissue that seems impossible to address through a healthy lifestyle. Thigh lift cosmetic surgery can reshape the inner or outer thighs, reduce excess skin and fat, and even provide smoother skin. As a result of the surgery, your thighs will be more proportionate to the rest of your body—as well as firmer. They’ll not only look more youthful, but clothing will fit more comfortably and attractively without the excess, sagging skin.

Circumferential Body Lifting (Lower Body Lifting)

A circumferential body lift is the most extensive post-weight loss body contouring procedure, combining the goals of an abdominoplasty, inner and outer thigh lift, and buttock lift to address excess tissue and hanging skin around the torso, hips, and thighs. Also called a belt lipectomy, a lower body lift involves an incision made around the circumference of your body. Your doctor will then remove the excess skin, tighten abdominal muscles, and reshape a natural contour of your entire lower body. This procedure requires the longest recovery of any body contouring procedure, but the results can be dramatically life-enhancing.

Can you tell me what the scars will look like?

Although body-contouring surgery will create scars, your doctor takes care to place incisions where they are inconspicuous or can be easily hidden by clothing.

  • Arm lift surgery.  Scars are located on the inside of the upper arm, where they are concealed in most situations.
  • Circumferential body lift. This surgery leaves the most extensive scar, which is typically located low on the abdomen, in a thin horizontal line extending around the torso.
  • Thigh lift. Depending on the extent of the procedure, thigh lift scars typically run along the groin creases or along the buttock folds.

If treated correctly, the scars will fade over time. Most post-weight loss body contouring patients find that a little scarring is a small price to pay for tighter skin and a better body shape and contour.
