Female Model after Mommy Makeover Giving birth may be the most wonderful thing you do, but it can leave you with a body much different than the one you remember before becoming a mother. You may notice that your breasts and curves are significantly different and you don’t feel like yourself. Proper diet and exercise can help mitigate this in some cases, but not all. It can make the first few months of motherhood some of the most frustrating in your life.

At MP Plastic Surgery, we utilize a procedure known as a “Mommy Makeover” to address some of the lingering after-effects of giving birth. It involves liposuction, tummy tuck, and breast lift (or breast augmentation in some cases). The end goal is restoring your body and making you feel like as you did before pregnancy. While it can be a wonderful procedure for many women here, it’s not for everyone. We consult very closely with our patients to determine if this procedure is the right fit for them. Here are 5 signs that you’re a good candidate for a mommy makeover:

1.    You’ve Worked at Losing the Weight First

A mommy makeover is best for patients who are healthy, and don’t smoke or drink. Overweight women, and women who have conditions that make elective surgery risky (such as thin blood), are not good candidates for a mommy makeover. Getting back in shape after a pregnancy should be conducted carefully and in close collaboration with your doctor. If you’ve done so in a healthy manner and yet still find yourself wrestling with extra skin or distended breasts, you might want to consider a mommy makeover.

2.    Your Child-Bearing Days are at an End

If you’re planning to have more children, there’s nothing preventing you from having a mommy makevoer. However, getting pregnant again will undo the benefits of a mommy makeover, and if you want to continue to enjoy the benefits, you’ll need to have another procedure. We recommend that most patients be done with child bearing before undergoing the procedure.

3.    You Underwent a C-Section

A Caesarian section can leave scarring around your belly, which is exactly the sort of blemish that a mommy makeover is designed to correct. It’s also a very good option if you’ve suffered a hernia during birth – common when having twins or triplets – as it affects the same general area and is easily solved by a mommy makeover.

4.    You’ve Given Birth at Least Six Months Ago

Giving birth can be a traumatic event for your body and you need to give yourself time to recover when. Always wait at least six months before considering a mommy makeover.

5.    You Stopped Breastfeeding at Least Six Months Ago

When you breastfeed, it alters the shape of your breasts, and you need to wait until they settle into a more permanent shape before discussing the specifics of a mommy makeover.
